October is National Breast Cancer Awareness Month
Breast cancer is the most common cancer in women in the United States aside from skin cancer. It is also the second leading cause of cancer deaths in American women with an estimated 40,170 deaths in 2009 alone.
Although women are most likely to be affected by breast cancer, men are also susceptible to developing the disease.
The goal of National Breast Cancer Awareness Month is to promote awareness, share information and provide greater access to health services.

Kevin’s Story
Kevin Christensen had a career as a computer programmer, designing and writing systems for medical clinic practice management. Over the years, the language that he wrote in (Pick) was becoming more of a legacy language and the ability to find employment had greatly diminished. Having a desire to find another more flexible and interesting career, he turned to medical transcription. The State of Utah Job Training Program recommended Meditec, where he has happily matriculated ever since.
Halloween Blooper
“My mother was always into decorating. Before Halloween she would rack her brain weeks ahead to come up with some new “scary” that she hadn’t used before. One year her new idea was to hang a “bloodied woman” from the top of our home.
When I got home from trick or treating on Halloween night, she told me that we surprisingly had few visitors. The next day at school, my classmates told me that they skipped our house because the body hanging from it looked too real. They were too scared to approach our home. I only later learned that my mother had used some of MY old clothes that my classmates recognized. They were afraid my mother had lost her marbles and it was ME hanging from the house!”
