History of Military Spouse Appreciation Day
For over 30 years, we have celebrated Military Spouse Appreciation Day on the Friday before Mother’s Day. And this year on May 10th, we will come together as a nation once again to recognize the huge contributions and sacrifices of our nation’s military spouses.
As President Ronald Regan stated in the first proclamation on April 17, 1984:
“Throughout the years, as the numbers of our married men and women in uniform have grown and as their military missions have become more complex and dispersed, their spouses have made countless personal sacrifices to support the Armed Forces. In many instances, they subordinated their personal and professional aspirations to the greater benefit of the service family. Responding to the call of duty, they frequently endured long periods of separation or left familiar surroundings and friends to re-establish their homes in distant places…”
All over the country there are planned celebrations, special events, major discounts, and giveaways to celebrate military spouses—including one here at Meditec!

As President Regan mentioned, Military spouses often sacrifice their education and careers. It can be extremely difficult to sustain employment when you are moving your family across the country every few years. And it’s even harder to attend a local university.
Fortunately, there are now many portable career and work-from-home opportunities for military spouses. And you don’t need a college degree. Many of these jobs simply require a certification or training course, like the ones we offer at Meditec.
Go check out our page with all the details and nominate the military spouse in your life to say thanks for everything they do.
