Program Details

In this self-paced online course, you'll discover the duties and the role of a pharmacy technician.

We'll cover the laws and regulations related to the pharmacy business, including the governance of controlled substances. You'll become familiar with drug classifications and frequently prescribed medications.

You'll learn the characteristics of a prescription, the necessary pharmaceutical calculations, and the process of preparing and dispensing prescriptions, including aseptic techniques, unit dose, and repackaging.

Once you've completed the curriculum with an 85% or better on all assessments, you'll have the option of participating in a 120-hour unpaid clinical externship with CVS. To be eligible, you must pass a background check and drug screen (additional fees may apply). You'll also need to comply with state licensing requirements, if applicable, before you begin.

Most states regulate pharmacy technicians in some way, and state requirements vary greatly. Prospective students should consult State Boards of Pharmacy for particulars on the pharmacy technician licensing requirements for their respective state prior to program enrollment.

The cost of this program includes a voucher for the NHA's ExCPT exam, but the curriculum will also prepare you for the PTCB PTCE, if you prefer. Please note, the NHA and PTCB require you to be 18 years of age or older, hold a high school diploma or equivalent, and complete a training program like ours before you are eligible to sit for certification.
