It is a wonderful standalone product which will assist your billing-coding staff enormously. If you are a coding student, be sure to consider adding it to your course.  Meditec resells the WavPlayer by Bytescribe Development Company. The device is a combination software program and hardware device, that allows the user to listen to standard digital sound files while controlling them with a foot pedal.
A transcriptionist uses this device to control the playback of the dictated reports without having to take his/her hands off of the keyboard. The foot pedal controls the playback, pause, rewind and fast forward functions, and the software provides configuration options to control the playback speed, rewind and fast forward stop points, etc. The software can run in a minimized state so that the transcriptionist is able to type into a word processor on the same computer. The WavPlayer software also offers speed and adjustable backspace controls.
Meditec.com includes the USB (Universal Serial Bus) version of the WavPlayer with most of the Medical Transcritpion courses, but the unit can also be purchased separately (or added to the Legal Transcription Course) for $170.00. Add-On options for this hardware/software are listed in all of Meditec's online order forms in association with the applicable courses/products.
It is important to note that this device only works with digitally recorded files, and will not function for standard, mini, or micro-cassette, or with other analog-type recording devices. Transcriptionist will generally need both digital and analog equipment in order to address the needs of most service providers within the industry, and regardless of which course of training or certification you may choose (whether taking one of Meditec's courses, or one from another school), you will eventually need to purchase hardware/software of this type.
