As Relates To General Website Functionality:

In order to enroll in our online courses and to interact with our website, the user’s web browser must be configured to accept both Persistent and Session cookies. Please note however that Meditec does not distribute cookies from third party advertisers and users may configure their browser to accept 1st party cookies and reject 3rd party cookies. Users may, at their own discretion, choose to remove all cookies and temporary internet files related to Meditec or Proedge2000.com activities after each session, and students using our Proedge course-ware are encouraged to do so after every session.

The Persistent and Session cookies used by our course-ware servers are designed specifically to guarantee that the enrolled user’s account cannot be used by more than one user at a time, and to therefore protect the student’s account from unauthorized use, but the cookies are specifically designed for one-time use and are NOT computer specific, so the student may login from any computer with internet access, so long as they do not attempt to create (or have running) more than one active session at a time. Again, these cookies can (and should be) ‘flushed’ after every active session. One of the best ways to insure that this occurs, is to close the web browser completely after each session.

On rare occasions, and usually seen with the Internet Explorer (IE) web browser, a failure of the browser to ‘flush’ expired session cookies, will result in a “Bad Goto” error when the user attempts to login. If this occurs, the student should go into the browser settings and manually delete all of the temporary internet files, and then close all running instances of the browser before attempting to login to their course. This helps insure that a new set of ‘fresh’ cookies are downloaded for the new session each time the student logs into their course.

For more assistance with security, privacy and browser configuration issues, we have prepared a PDF document that students can download. Download: “Living with the Microsoft IE Web Browser” – 1.22 MB Adobe PDF Document. Please note that while this document has been prepared using Microsoft IE as its primary example, the general configuration recommendations are adaptable to all of the most popular web browsers, including FireFox, Flocks, Safari, etc. Users should also note, that by following all of the recommended configuration settings, they may encounter problems with certain other websites which require the retention of their cookies, or which may require uses to also accept third party cookies. It is up to the end user to decide and determine which configuration works best for their own needs and internet browsing preferences.
