Unfortunately, I have not been diligent with the coursework. I started the MT class nearly a year ago; a few months later, I had my first baby and I essentially stopped any work towards finishing until recently---now that my deadline is approaching! The coarse work is fairly easy for me as I already have a B.S. in health sciences and am familiar with medical terminology and experienced with typing/data entry.
Hopefully I will be finished with the MT course before my deadline (within the next month). Although I may need an extension. I have already inquired about the extension process via the info@meditec email. Gary has been helpful and always quick to respond. However, I am wondering how beneficial it is for me to pay for the extension to take the exam. Unless I opt for the jumpstart program-- I am very nervous about finding employment. What happens if you do not score above an 85% on the final exam? Can you retake the test? Statistically, how long does it take students enrolled in the jumpstart program to start earning an income? Also, how many graduates qualify and opt for this internship program? I really want to follow through with becoming an MT. Aside from the financial investment I have already made in the class, I would love to be able to supplement our income and stay home with my son at the same time. My husband is going back to school, and I want to eventually get a graduate degree as well. Being able to supplement our income would help in a tremendous way. Thanks for your time, Jayne |

Hi Jayne, I am sorry that I missed your post yesterday when checking the forum! I am going to reply w/i your text in order not to miss answering any of your questions. Also, I am your instructor and my Email is: DawnM at Meditec dot com. Read below. : ) Unfortunately, I have not been diligent with the coursework. My Response: Don't feel bad Jayne. Our motto is that family always comes first. This is one reason online training is so beneficial- it's flexible, and you can work at your own pace. Unless I opt for the jumpstart program-- My Response: My best advice is to get the extension. If you do not take the final exam, then you do not graduate from our program and you cannot use our name in your resume as having graduated from our program. If an employer calls to verify your graduation and skill set, we cannot say you graduated, and we can't verify your skill set as you didn't take the final. There are a lot of jobs in MT available, but there is a lot of competition for them. Graduating from a good school w/ established contacts in the industry, is a selling point for yourself. I am very nervous about finding employment. What happens if you do not score above an 85% on the final exam? Can you retake the test? Statistically, how long does it take students enrolled in the jumpstart program to start earning an income? Also, how many graduates qualify and opt for this internship program? My Response: If you do not score above an 85%, we give you comprehensive feedback for improvement, send you some extra files to do, and test you again. How long does it take JSers to start earning money? Up to 3 months. Some sooner. Your last question is hard to answer as I don't have "statistics" handy. Most of our recent graduates have gone through JS. However, all combined, most of our students graduate and do not go through JS. Most of our graduates qualify for JS. My Response: MT is the perfect career for you due to your background w/ terminology, etc and in that you want to work at home. Plus, when you go for your grad degree, you can just do MT part-time. Now the earnings starting out are not great because you will be SLOWWWWWW, but within a few months, you should be earning pretty good money, and by the end of your first year, you should be around $18 to $20 an hour, which isn't bad for working at home. You could work 2 hours before your son gets up in the morning, during his nap time, and 2 hours after he goes to bed in the evening. This gives you time with him. It does also make for a longgg day for you, but I believe it would be worth it being that you'll save money on childcare, get to be home w/ your son, and make good money to supplement the household. If you have further questions, don't hesitate to E-Mail me at: DawnM at Meditec dot com. Thanks for your time, Jayne |

Hello Jayne,
I totally understand what you are going through. When I first started I was anxious and wanted to start right away, but when I got the courses shortly after I had my baby, soooo it's kinda been put off longer than what I wanted. Know I am starting to hit it harder. I am nervous about the 85% thing too, but you seem to have a more advantage with all your knowledge. Just keep your head up and keep going. Megan Allen (IMG:style_emoticons/default/rolleyes.gif) Hi Megan, Don't feel bad or guilty for putting family first! That is part of the beauty of online self-paced training for adults. Don't worry about the 85% thing. Before you take your final exam, you will do 5 practice reports that I will QA and give you intensive feedback for improvement. Most of students score in the 90s on just the practice reports! If I see that you need some extra assistance, I'm going to work with you hand and hand to bring your skills up so that you will ACE the final exam. All you have to do is to work hard, trust the process, and we will work with you until your skills are employable. I mean that is what Meditec is all about : ). If you ever have any questions, you can contact me at MTMentor@meditec.com. I'm happy to help. |
