This three course program will provide you with a comprehensive knowledge and skill set and end with a Certification Exam based on your studies.

In this program, you will learn how to effectively help others negotiate and collaborate through difficult disputes. This program provides Mediators Without Borders ® training on the InAccord Conflict Analysis model for both mediation and arbitration practice, in addition to practice opportunities where you can apply your new skills in simulated role plays. As part of the arbitration training, you will learn how to facilitate a hearing, weigh evidence and testimony, and render an award.

Paralegal – Module 6: Grammar, Spelling, Word Usage, Punctuation, and Capitalization for the Paralegal (1.83 Hours)

English is the primary spoken language in 104 countries and most countries use English in business practices. There are several kinds of English such as British, Canadian and American English. Appropriate usage of English grammar is an integral part of any Law professional’s job. Having a solid English and grammar foundation will enhance communication skills both in written and spoken forms.

In the module we will undertake an overview of English and grammar in an effort to refresh your memory regarding proper usage. We will reiterate grammar rules and touching on some of the common errors made regarding grammar usage,

Upon successful completion of this module you will be able to:

  2. Follow general spelling rules
  3. Recognize & properly use contractions

Paralegal – Module 19: Interviews (0.48 Hours)

One of the most important skills in the field of arbitrator & mediator is interviewing skills where the interviewer must keep in mind the central goal that is to generate a flow of accurate information and reach a mutually agreed-upon decision.

In our modern litigious society, the value of arbitration and mediation in the business sector cannot be understated. This course examines the main objectives behind both methods of litigation, how they differ, how they work, and how final decisions are reached.

REGISTRATION CRITERIA

This program is for you if you’re seeking an entry-level technician position in the wind energy industry. There are no prerequisites for this program however students need to possess proficiency in English Language (Reading and Writing) as all of our programs are administered in English. This enables students to communicate effectively throughout the program.

SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS

This program can be taken on a Mac or a PC. On a PC, it is compatible with Windows Vista and later operating systems and IE 8 and later browsers. With a PC, Microsoft Word 2003 or higher is also required. On a Mac, the program is compatible with Mac OS X 10.6 (with Java 6) and later operating systems, Firefox, Chrome, and Safari 5.1.9 or later browsers. Microsoft Word 2011 or higher is also required on Mac.

Judge M. Sue Kurita is a native El Pasoan and has served as a judge for over 26 years.
She is the presiding judge of El Paso County Court at Law Number Six since the court was created in 1998. Prior to 1998, Judge Kurita served as a Municipal for the City of El Paso for 9 years, including 4 years as the Presiding Judge.
Judge Kurita has served on the boards of Judicial Section of the State Bar of Texas, and on the National Association of Women Judges.
She was elected Vice-President of the National Association for Women Judges and also served as the Chair for the New Judges Program for NAWJ.

Judge Kurita was an official U.S. delegate to the Latin America Seminar on the 1980 Hague Convention Child Abduction Treaty. In September 2010, the Texas Supreme Court appointed Judge Kurita to serve on the State Commission for Judicial Conduct and currently serves as Vice-Chair.

Judge Kurita was awarded the inaugural Daniel H. Benson Public Service Award from The Texas Tech University School of Law Alumni Association.

Since 1994, Judge Kurita has been an adjunct professor for Park University and Excelsior College, teaching military personnel and their families. She has been the Commencement Speaker for both colleges. She was named the Excelsior College, School of Public Service 2015 Distinguished Faculty Member of the Year. She also was a community supporter for the Fort Bliss Garrison, Basic Opportunities for Single Soldiers Program, organizing a holiday host programs.

Judge Kurita is a 1975 graduate of the University of Texas at El Paso (BA). She earned a Masters from Webster University in 1981; and her law degree from Texas Tech University School of Law in 1985. Additionally, Judge Kurita was a Commandant List graduate in the Modern Greek Language Course at the Defense Language Institute. Judge Kurita has received certification in Criminal Law and Civil Law from the Texas Center for the Judiciary, Judicial College.

Brian Luther is a Colorado licensed attorney and certified mediator and arbitrator with over 15 years of mediation and alternative dispute resolution experience in a variety of settings. Brian has a BA in English and History from Rutgers University, and a Juris Doctorate from Western New England School of Law. Brian has been a lead Instructor and Internship Supervisor for the past 4 years. In addition, Brian has presided as an impartial hearing officer in Longmont, CO, and is an alternate board member for the City of Longmont Board of Adjustments & Appeals, a quasi-judicial city board. As an attorney and mediator with an innovative mind-set and advanced practice skills, Brian brings enthusiastic dedication to his teaching and his work.

Naseem Ghaffari, JD assists with investigations related to employee relations issues, while effectively and accurately maintaining confidential employee relations. She monitors precedents and manages consistency in EEO practices: Including critical incident management, investigations, contract negotiations, and resolution recommendations.

Naseem has 7+ years’ experience resolving disputes in the workplace and international environments and has extensive investigative experience. She is an expert in negotiations, bargaining, and mediation resulting in favorable agreements and contract terms. In order to do so, she fosters reconciliations to improve organizational effectiveness and employee performance. Most recently, she worked in the public sector as an Employee Relations, EEO and ADA consultant. In addition to this, she holds a Juris Doctorate, has a Masters Certification in International Conflict Resolution and Mediation, and is a Certified California Mediator.
